Salvation Army New Hope Shelter
Toronto
2018
The Salvation Army’s 60 bed emergency shelter for homeless men, located on a tight urban site in Leslieville in downtown Toronto, opened its doors on January 8, 2018.
The Salvation Army’s New Hope Leslieville shelter replaces shelter beds lost at the closure of the previous Hope Shelter following the termination of the lease at the former location. The opening came at a time when people across the city began to recognize the importance of shelters in stabilizing the lives of many people finding themselves in precarious circumstances.
The compact 1,000 sq. m. facility, executed on a tight budget and limited timeframe, offers supportive programs and services for men experiencing homelessness. The building integrates private outdoor space, as well as a complement of interior spaces including serving kitchen, dining room, program space, counselling, support & administration space, as well as sleeping rooms accommodating a range of beds from a single bed through multiple bed dorms.
