40 Oak St

Toronto

2012

40 Oaks is a new supportive housing building for Toronto Christian Resource Centre providing 87 residential suites from bachelor to 2-bedrooms in size, as the only non-TCHC project in the redeveloped Regent Park. In 2020, TCRC amalgamated with Fred Victor Centre. The main floor provides a multi-service hub with support space for the broader community, together with residential amenity space and a place of worship.

The project incorporates The Regent Park Community Food Centre, a partnership between CRC and Community Food Centres Canada (CFCC), another of our clients, a national organization that is driving the development of Community Food Centres across the country.

In addition to productive community gardens, both as allotment and communal gardens, the project incorporates a community kitchen that serves hundreds of hot meals per day for those in the community living in poverty, as well as food skills training, a clothing program, shower and laundry facilities open to the public.

The project was designed to meet the City’s Green Development Standard, as well as incorporating provisions for future solar PV collectors. The building is integrated into the Regent Park district energy system for heating and cooling. Residential construction was completed January 2012; with hub completed later that year.
