Tropicana Community Centre

Toronto

2015

Tropicana Community Services completed Phases 1 & 2 of their new community services centre, with the relocation of their head offices into an existing warehouse building which we had designed for the North American Life Assurance Company in 1986 as a printing plant and warehouse. Renovations on the space at 1385 Huntingwood Drive officially began in January 2013. Construction, at times, included more than 60 workers on site, while part of the building was occupied by the newly relocated Tropicana head offices.

The new 28,000 SF community centre provides a number of amenities including a computer lab, classrooms, counselling rooms and commercial teaching kitchen, also capable of serving events in the large community room. A gymnasium is also provided, as well as a range of multifunctional spaces.

Tropicana now operates out of six separate sites across the city’s east end providing programs and services in areas such as counselling, employment services, daycare and youth development. Moving forward, elements of each programming area, with the exception of daycare, will be offered at the brand new Centre.

Serving an average of 20,000 youth, newcomers, and people of Black and Caribbean heritage in its former, much smaller, space,Tropicana Community Services is excited to introduce the community to its Centre of Excellence with its expanded capacity for through culturally appropriate program and service delivery.
