This project connects four former semi-detached heritage buildings in Toronto’s Cabbagetown neighbourhood into a single residential building providing a total of 35 self-contained affordable housing units, made up of 31 studio and four one-bedroom apartments, 20% of the total being fully accessible units.

The existing deteriorated buildings, built in the late 1870s in the Second Empire style, have been restored as part of the extensive renovation and additions.

Alongside the self-contained suites, accessible common areas are included on the ground floor with a communal kitchen, dining area and three separate lounge spaces. Residents are encouraged to dine communally for therapeutic reasons to counter the tendency of those with mental-health histories to sometimes self-isolate.

A large exterior deck to the rear of the building along with thoughtfully landscaped gardens provide outdoor amenity space for residents. Planter boxes along Winchester Street allow residents to grow their own produce while providing opportunities for social interaction with local community.
