Breaking The Cycle Funding Announcement

BTC_ActionPlanEvent
The Honourable Lisa Raitt, on behalf of the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, today announced funding for Breaking the Cycle (BTC) to renovate 4200 SF of space into a facility that provides an early identification and prevention program designed to reduce risk and to enhance the development for substance-exposed children (prenatal - 6 years) through providing services which address maternal addiction problems and the mother-child relationship through a community based cross-systemic model.

The project will include child minding program space, counselling and group rooms, community kitchen and gathering spaces as well as offices and clinical examination rooms. Families receive integrated addictions counselling, health/medical services, parenting support, development screening and assessment, early childhood interventions, child care, access to FASD Diagnostic Clinic, and basic needs support in a single access setting in downtown Toronto, with home visitation and street outreach components.

In 2004, Breaking the Cycle was recognized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime as an exemplary program serving pregnant and parenting women with substance use problems, and their young children. We had previously renovated BTC’s former home at 761 Queen Street West, and are delighted to assist the agency in moving its service delivery forward in their new facility. The building permit is in hand and construction is due to commence shortly.
